Custom Orthotics
Often back, hip, knee, and ankle pain is caused by poor arch support in the foot. A mechanical assessment and a precisely moulded imprint of the foot are used to create custom orthotics.
What is Custom Orthotics?
Custom orthotics are medical devices designed to correct foot and ankle alignment, suitable for various shoe types. They help distribute ground pressure, benefiting the knees, hips, and back. However, they may or may not be right for you. A physiotherapist can determine whether or not they will help you based on your injury. For example, while they can ease stress in those frequently standing or walking in dress shoes, addressing the primary issue, like hip pain causing a limp, might be more vital.
What would my appointment be like?
Your physiotherapist will examine your foot and ankle stance, as well as your walking pattern. They’ll also check shoe wear patterns and any foot calluses to identify abnormalities. Based on the intended shoe type, they’ll discuss suitable orthotic materials. After taking a foot mold, it’s sent to a lab for crafting. You can expect your orthotics in a week or two, followed by guidance from your physiotherapist on a gradual adjustment plan.
What conditions could
custom orthotics help treat?
You may be a candidate for orthotics if you have any of the following conditions listed below. Your physiotherapist will explain other treatment options which will allow you to make an informed decision.

- Morton’s Neuroma
- Flat feet/ High arches
